Hi there, I am Jaye Hossanne.
I have been walking as a form of exercise for 7 years. Throughout this time, I regained and lost weight multiple times. And walking and simple daily habits have always helped me with that.
At my heaviest, I was over 196 pounds, or 89 kg.
Walking helped me get back to 147 pounds, or 67 kg.
This time again, because a lack in my lifestyle, I gained weight. The issue wasn’t that I stopped walking completely, but I lost control of my eating.
So I had no option but to start serious walking again. Interestingly enough, in the very first month, I lost around 8 pounds, or 3.6 kilograms.
So let me share with you how I did this, 5 surprises that I got, and the walking plan.
My Fitness Goal
I start my fitness journey on July 3rd, 2026.
My starting weight was around 169.7 pounds, or 77 kilograms. And my goal weight is 143 pounds, or 65 kilograms.
How Did I Achieve This Milestone with Walking?
I already had a walking habit, but I was a little irregular. So I thought 45 minutes would be the best option for me. So I started my journey with 45 minutes of regular walking.
I walked primarily in the morning on an empty stomach.
And some days in the afternoon, like after 4:30 PM.
I prioritize morning walks in my journey.
Because research shows that performing cardiovascular exercises on an empty stomach primarily uses fat as the fuel.
And walking, in my experience, is the best cardio for beginners and overweight people. So if you can do a longer session in the morning, before breakfast, you can burn a significant amount of your body fat.
Walking also has multiple variations that can suit people of different fitness levels and age groups. For example, I primarily did power walking in my first month. I love it, and it helped me greatly with losing fat.
While if you are a beginner, you can start with normal walking and gradually shift to more advanced variations. Like brisk walking, power walking, interval walking, and incline walking.
This will be great in terms of progression and flexibility. Which are very important for a sustainable weight loss and fitness journey.
Look at how I shift to more advanced variations in my walking.
So first:
- I start with normal walking
- Next, I increase my speed, and it is brisk walking now
- Then I increase my speed even more - basically as fast as I can comfortably go. My arms naturally start moving faster. My belly and chest fat are moving as well. And when I feel any pain or tiredness, I slow down and back to normal walking.
- And finally, When I repeat this cycle a few times, it is called interval walking. In simple terms walking faster for a short time, getting slower and repeat.
So basically I completed every session by walking this way.
You Can Say, Where Did I Walk?
Well, I walked primarily on the village trails, with beautiful nature all around. And sometimes I walked in my neighborhood, my yard, and the roads.
While I didn’t have a walking mate or weight loss buddy as many people called. Still, I was consistent in my journey.
And I followed a few simple tips for that.
Like:
- Walking in nearby areas and making it feel like an adventure
- Talking with people while walking, especially elderly people and kids
- Spending some time in nature and appreciating it
- Taking a picture of my body every few days
Now, here is the most important things that I have to talk, or you may ask:
What Was My Diet and Lifestyle Overall?
Well, to be very honest with you - I didn’t have any major changes in my eating or living. I just tried to be right or general.
Things like:
- Eating food the amount I felt I need
- Reducing carbs and eating more vegetables
- Avoiding excessive oily, sugar, & salty foods
- Drinking enough water in the day especially before, & after walking
- Practice deep breathing to reduce stress
- Taking enough rest to recover my body
- And trying to get quality sleep
Of course, I wasn’t perfect at these things. Most of the time, I messed up. Still, these efforts helped me make real progress in my journey.
Now, look at the most interesting part of this story:The mistakes that I made and surprises I had, even though I had been walking for a long time.
For example:
When I tried to eat properly, I felt unusually hungry, that I had to eat even at 5 PM several days.
Second: Some days, I skipped my warm-up and cool-down, and I wasn’t careful about my walking shoes and clothes. And surely, I paid for these mistakes. My back and neck felt stiff and my walking became uncomfortable. Honestly, I had to be careful of these basic things in my journey.
Third: The first 5 days were the hardest. I felt like my whole lifestyle changed. I became kind of obsessed and constantly felt like I should continue the next day or not?
For the good part and number 4:
After one week, I felt like, “Yes , I am getting used to longer walking sessions again.” My stress level reduced, mood improved, strength increased, and I felt naturally motivated and energized throughout the day.
My Current Bodyweight:
So as of August 3rd 1 month later, my current bodyweight is 161.8 pounds, or 73.4 kilograms, after losing 8 pounds in the first month.
To achieve my goal weight of 143 pounds, I have to lose another 18.8 pounds. And by the grace of the Lord, I am committed to make it happen.
While, I have a plan to make another story after getting into shape.
